Important tips, facts and myths

The purpose of different color glass:

  • Brown glass absorbs most of the ultraviolet radiation, providing protection against potentially harmful light (beer would be affected if bottled in clear glass packaging).

  • Green glass provides light protection, but not as much as brown glass.

  • Clear glass is best used for products that are not affected by light exposure (alcohol, water, sauces, etc.).

Remember!
Some recycling facilities demand that you collect all colors separately, check your local regulations.

Glass most resistant waste:

Glass decomposes in approximately 1 million years. It is the most resistant waste type followed by PET which has a lifespan of up to 1,000 years.

  • Glass is one of the healthiest packaging materials, not altering the properties and taste of its contents.

  • Perfect for storing corrosive materials.

  • Due to its long lifespan it is important not to litter with glass waste. It is dangerous and it will be found in the same form for thousands of years.

5Rs - Glass:

  • Refuse - Try to avoid products that have glass packaging that cannot be reused!

  • Reduce - Try buying beverages with crates and glass packaging that are refillable!

  • Reuse - Bottles and jars are perfect for storing things, reuse them!

  • Repurpose - Bottles can become lamps or windows. Use your imagination!

  • Recycle -  Be careful to keep you glass waste intact so it is more easily recycled!
